Guitarist Stephen Tunstall recently completed a Graduate Performance Diploma at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in the studio of Julian Gray. He joined the faculty of the Music Workshop in June 2008 and teaches rock, pop, and classical guitar and coaches bands in the Kidz Rock program. Stephen received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Guitar Performance from Northeastern Illinois University in May 2004. There he studied with 19th century guitar music specialist, Dr. Brian Torosian. Stephen went on to earn his Master of Music at Roosevelt University in Chicago studying guitar performance and pedagogy with Prof. Pamela Kimmel and world renowned performer Denis Azabagic. Stephen has given recitals on the Harper College Guest artist series, Roosevelt University concert series, and the Rolling Meadows Library Arts Alive series. A regular participant in the Guitar Foundation of America Convention, Stephen has also given numerous performances at the Mid-America Guitar Ensemble festival.
In recent years Stephen has performed on Masterclasses for distinguished artists Sergio Assad, Roland Dyens, Nigel North, David Leisner, and The Endellion Quartet. In October 2006 he became a member of Peabody Conservatory’s Creative Access, a community outreach group giving volunteer performances at hospital wards, hospices, and shelters. Stephen is currently an active performer in the Baltimore/DC area.
