Jonathan Chester has been playing and studying drums since the age of twelve and has had experience in Concert, and marching bands as well jazz, rock, and all other contemporary styles. He has a BA in Music from Morgan State University and has been teaching since 2004.

In his thirteen years of playing the drums, Jonathan has studied with Willie Barber(local legend), Orlando Cotto (Andy Gonsalez, Giovanni Hidalgo), Donna DiStefano (Baltimore Opera Orchestra), Eric Kennedy (Neena Freelon, John Hicks), and Bob Novak. He is well versed in Jazz (Big Band), Funk, Rock, and Latin music. He teaches students to be proficient with the 40 snare drum rudiments, as well developing reading skills, odd time signatures, and polyrythms. Jonathon is very experienced with the proper techniques of hand drumming (congas, djembe, bongos etc…) and the rhythms of Africa and Cuba.

In addition to teaching Jonathan, has performed with various artists around the Baltimore area playing various styles and has been a member of hip-hop rock group AudioFix, Gregg Gaither trio (Jazz), steel drum player Roy Cross, and Kenneth Alston (Three Mo Tenors).
